Police Clearance Certificate

A Police Clearance Certificate (PCC) is issued to Indian Passport holders if they have applied for residential status, employment or long-term visa, or immigration. Police Clearance Certificate (PCC) may also be required by Indian passport holders if they are planning to stay for a long period in a foreign country.

Foreign Nationals can apply for Police Clearance Certificate for the period of employment or studies undertaken during their stay in India.

Note: Old passport shall be cancelled by the Embassy and cannot be used for travel once application for reissue is accepted.

Follow the below steps in order to apply

  1. Create an account (Register yourself) on Alankit Indian Consular Application Centre (ICAC) website. Click Here to register.
  2. Fill the Govt of India's Online Passport Application Form, by following these steps:
    1. Register through the Global Passport Seva Online Portal. (Choose your country of residence, complete the required information and click on "Register" link. Click Here to visit the Global Passport Seva Online Portal.
    2. Login to the Global Passport Seva Online Portal with the Login ID created in the previous step.
    3. Select "Apply for Police Clearance Certificate".
    4. Fill in the required details in the application form and submit.
    5. Click the "Print Application Form" link to print the application details.
  3. Book your appointment online at Alankit Indian Consular Application Centre (ICAC) website. You can choose a convenient date and time to visit the Alankit ICAC for your application submission. Click Here to book your appointment online.  
  4. Ensure that you have your all other supporting documents, exactly as per the "Documents Checklist" section. 
  5. Visit the Alankit ICAC, as per your jurisdiction. The address and location of the ICAC will be clearly mentioned in the appontment letter. 
  6. Kindly ensure you reach the ICAC 15 minutes prior to your appointment time. 
  7. Submit your application and deposit your fees at Alankit ICAC. You can check the fee for this application under the "Fee Details" section. 
  8. Your application submission process is now complete! You can avail our Courier service to get your passport delivered to your doorstep!

Note: For Postal Applications, follow step 1 and step 2, and then apply for postal application by loggin-in. Click here to log-in. Follow the step-by-step direction to prepare your postal package and send it to the correct Alankit ICAC as per your jurisdiction. 3 Apply for postal application and pay the fees online. You can also opt to pay fees through bank transfer.
4 Prepare your postal package as per the checklist of documents. Attach proof of payment
5 Send your postal package to Alankit ICAC as per your jurisdiction
6 You can Track your Application Status on our website.
7 Have your processed document(s) delivered to your doorstep.
Documents Checklist for Police Clearance Certificate (PCC):

For Indian Nationals:
  • Applicant signature who is above18 years is mandatory below the photograph on first page of the Form.
  • Self-attested photocopy of the first and last page of the Indian passport (personal information pages).
  • 02 recent photos (51mm x 51mm). Photo with wrong specifications may lead to rejection. Photo specifications can be checked at (Click Here)
  • Self-attested photocopy of valid German Stay Permit (Aufenthaltstitel/Visa/Personal Ausweis).
  • Self-attested photocopy of Proof of Current address in Germany (City Registration/ Meldebesatigung / Anmeldung / personalausweis).
  • Submission of valid Indian address proof is mandatory if current Indian address is different from Passport
  • The applicant must bring one passport-size photo with them, and all documents must be self-attested.

For Foreign Nationals:
  • Typed Request letter mentioning the purpose of application along with exact period ( date and year ) of stay in India.
  • Self attested copy of visa of Germany (if applicable).
  • Self attested copies of passport.
  • Copies of Indian visa along with entry/exit immigration stamps.
  • Proof of registration with FRRO/ Hostel/University/Address of shared accommodation in India(At the time of stay in India).
  • Proof of the payment of the applicable fee (if made through Bank Transfer).
  • The applicant must bring one passport-size photo with them, and all documents must be self-attested.

FAQ's for Police Clearance Certificate (PCC)

  1. Who can apply for Police Clearance Certificate (PCC)?
    • PCC can be issued to Indian nationals who are seeking residential status, employment or long-term visa, or immigration. However, a PCC is not required for Indian tourists who travel to other countries for tourist purposes.
    • Foreign Nationals can apply for Police Clearance Certificate for the period of employment or studies undertaken during their stay in India.
  2. In which language will the PCC be issued?
    • Police Clearance Certificate will be issued only in English.
  3. What are the eligibility conditions to obtain a Police Clearance Certificate?
    • To obtain a Police Clearance Certificate, you must possess a valid Indian passport and proof of address. Your current address must match the address mentioned on your passport and other documents. If there is any change, it is required to submit supporting documents for the new address.
    • Foreign nationals, must possess a valid passport, submit an address proof (Meldebescheinigung) and also specify the period for which they require the PCC and submit a proof of their stay in India during this period.
  4. How much time does it take to receive a PCC, after submission of the application at Alankit ICAC?
    • It depends on when the clearance is received from the concerned police authorities in India.
  5. Is there an age limit for procuring a Police Clearance Certificate?
    • No, there is no age limit to avail a Police Clearance Certificate.
  6. Can I apply for PCC if my passport is expired?
    • No, as PCC is issued only on valid passport. It is required to have a passport with at least 6 months validity.
    • Foreign nationals require only to fulfil the eligibility conditions as mentioned in Q.No.3
  7. What is the process if adverse police report has been given by Police authorities?
    • Sometimes Adverse Report is received on the basis of incorrect address, gender, parents name and wife’s name. Applicants are therefore advised that please check the following personal particulars before filling the application:
      • Correct address and someone is residing on that place
      • Correct gender
      • Correct Parents’ name as per passport
      • Correct Spouse's name as per passport
    • Please Note: Embassy / Consulate cannot issue PCC if police report is adverse. The applicant will need to directly contact the police authorities in India to get the PCC cleared.
  8. Am I required to select a police station in India while filling up the online application?
    • Yes
  9. How do I select correct police station while filling up PCC application?
    • This information needs to be provided by the applicant. Suggested sources are checking on the internet, police websites of the concerned district or verifying through your contacts.
  10. Can minor citizens apply for a Police Clearance Certificate?
    • A Police Clearance Certificate can be issued to minors only if it required by a foreign government.
  11. Can I apply for a Police Clearance Certificate more than once?
    • Yes, depending purpose and country for which PCC is going to be used. It may be possible to apply for the same purpose in different countries or in the same country for different purposes.
  12. Can my Police Clearance Certificate be apostilled by the Embassy / Consulate?
    • No, The Embassy of India / Consulate Gerneral of India in Germany cannot apostille the Police clearance Certificate issued by the Embassy / Consulate.
  13. Can I track the status of my application on the Indian Government's portal?
    • Yes, you can track the status of your PCC application on Indian Governmtent's portal (Passport Seva at Indian Embassies and Consulates). Click Here to access the portal.1
  14. What is the procedure for applying for PCC?

  15. How do I make the payment for PCC?
